Igala Cultural Festival 2026
In conjunction with the 1st International Conference on Igala Studies, the Igala Cultural Festival will showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Igala people. The festival runs from March 9-13, 2026, overlapping with the conference dates.
Festival Highlights
Traditional Dance Performances
Experience the energetic and graceful traditional dances of the Igala people, including the famous Achaba and Ogwu dances. Performances will take place daily at 4:00 PM at the Cultural Center.
Art Exhibition
Local artists will display traditional Igala art, including pottery, weaving, and woodcarving. The exhibition is open throughout the conference in the University Library Gallery.
Culinary Showcase
Sample authentic Igala cuisine, including Okoho soup, Ichi (pounded yam), and various traditional delicacies. Food stalls will be available at the festival grounds.
Traditional Attire Display
See the beautiful traditional clothing of the Igala people, including the elaborate attire of the Attah (king) and his chiefs. A fashion show is scheduled for March 11th.
